Minister of Energy Calls for Responsible Hydrocarbon Investment at Africa Oil Week Launch in Accra
At the official press launch of Africa Oil Week 2025, held in Accra, Ghana, Minister of State for Energy, Hon. Herbert Krapa, underscored Africa’s commitment to responsibly harnessing its hydrocarbon resources to accelerate economic growth. The landmark event will move to Accra in September 2025, spotlighting Ghana as a central hub for energy discussions on the continent.
Hon. Krapa addressed the evolving landscape of Africa’s oil and gas sector, emphasizing that hydrocarbon resources remain essential for economic resilience and growth. "If you imagine Africa’s economy without oil and gas, you understand the challenge we would face. The Ministers across the continent are focused on consolidating investments into the sector, creating the Africa Energy Bank to sustain and grow our production," Krapa stated. He assured that the Ghanaian government and Ministry of Energy are committed to both advancing hydrocarbon exploration and maintaining sustainable development practices.
Highlighting Ghana’s ambition to strengthen its role in Africa's energy future, Hon. Krapa described the event’s shift to Accra as a significant opportunity to attract investments and build local capacity in oil and gas. “Hosting Africa Oil Week here aligns with our goal of accelerating exploration and production while building a unified approach to sustainable oil and gas resource management,” he said.
Mr. Egbert Faibille Jnr., CEO of the Petroleum Commission, also spoke at the launch, emphasizing Ghana’s active role in oil and gas production since its first commercial discovery in 2007. He pointed out that the investment requirements for hydrocarbon exploration are substantial and that attracting international partnerships will be essential to advancing the sector.
The event will bring global leaders in oil and gas to Accra, creating a platform for Ghana to showcase its potential, drive discussions on sustainable resource use, and build partnerships that strengthen the region's energy infrastructure.
