Ghana’s Trade Fair Revamp: Jobs and Progress
Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has reaffirmed his commitment to Ghana's infrastructure development with a working visit to the Ghana International Trade Fair Centre. Accompanied by Dr. Agnes Adu, CEO of the Ghana Trade Fair Company Limited, Dr. Bawumia inspected the ongoing redevelopment of the facility, which includes a state-of-the-art 20,000-capacity Convention Centre, the largest of its kind in Ghana.
Dr. Bawumia commended the vision and dedication of Dr. Adu and her team, describing the project as a beacon of Ghana’s ambitions. He also praised the leadership of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for laying the foundation for this transformative initiative, emphasizing that bold leadership and resilience were key to overcoming challenges.
“This project is a testament to the bold leadership of President Akufo-Addo and the resilience of the Ghanaian spirit. It represents what we can achieve when we work together with determination and purpose,” Dr. Bawumia said.
Transforming Ghana’s Trade and Creative Arts
Dr. Adu expressed her excitement about the redevelopment, calling it a groundbreaking step toward positioning Ghana as a hub for trade, innovation, and culture. "This redevelopment is not just a restoration of the past glory of the Trade Fair Centre; it is a bold leap into the future. By integrating world-class infrastructure with Ghana’s heritage, we are creating a space that embodies our nation’s potential," she remarked.
The Convention Centre will feature modern amenities, including a 5,000-square-meter pre-event lobby with a restaurant, Made-in-Ghana gift shop, and forex bureau. Its versatile main hall, capable of hosting up to 20,000 people, is designed to accommodate a variety of events, from conferences to concerts.
Dr. Adu highlighted the economic benefits of the redevelopment, noting that it will generate over 10,000 permanent jobs and create opportunities for small businesses to reach international markets. She credited the vision of the NPP government, led by President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Bawumia, for initiating this ambitious project in 2017.
A Vision for National Growth
Dr. Bawumia emphasized the significance of the project beyond its infrastructure. He noted that the facility will serve as a platform for creative professionals to showcase their talents, foster innovation, and position Ghana as a leader in trade and cultural exchange.
“This is more than a building; it is a symbol of progress and a platform for Ghanaians to showcase their creativity and entrepreneurial spirit to the world,” Dr. Bawumia said.
Beyond the Convention Centre, the redevelopment master plan includes a world-class hotel, a retail mall, and the Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat. The project is expected to generate $150 million in annual business activity while promoting local products globally.
The Vice President’s visit underscored his vision for a modern Ghana that blends heritage with world-class infrastructure, driving economic growth and enhancing national pride.
