From Vision to Victory: Ghana Becomes Cybersecurity Model for Africa at Inaugural Awards
The Cybersecurity Authority of Ghana, under the leadership of Dr. Albert Antwi-Boasiako, hosted the first-ever Cybersecurity Awards Night on November 1, 2024, at the Movenpick Hotel in Accra. This landmark event celebrated Ghana’s rapid progress in cybersecurity, elevating the country to one of the top ranks in Africa, with an impressive 99.27% score on the ITU Global Cybersecurity Index.
Dr. Antwi-Boasiako extended heartfelt appreciation to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, whose visionary approach to cybersecurity reform since 2017 set the foundation for Ghana’s success. The President’s initiative has drawn global admiration, establishing Ghana as a model in cybersecurity development for the Global South. He also credited the Minister of Communications and Digitalisation, Mrs. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, for her critical role in driving the nation’s cybersecurity agenda, alongside other ministers and international partners.
The evening underscored the power of cross-sector collaboration, with Parliament, security agencies, the National Cyber Security Inter-Ministerial Advisory Council, and international allies all contributing to the country’s cybersecurity milestones. Dr. Antwi-Boasiako noted that the bipartisan support from Ghana's Parliament further strengthened the success of cybersecurity initiatives, setting a positive example of unified commitment beyond political divisions.
The awards recognized individual and organizational achievements in cybersecurity, including the exceptional dedication of the CSA’s staff. Dr. Antwi-Boasiako emphasized that maintaining Ghana’s cybersecurity resilience requires ongoing vigilance and collaboration across sectors, and he encouraged stakeholders to remain proactive against ever-evolving digital threats.
