Prioritize Development Over Temporary Gains – Prof. Opoku-Agyemang Appeals to Electorates
The Vice Presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, has called on voters to prioritize their developmental needs when casting their ballots in the upcoming December 7, 2024, general elections. Speaking to NDC supporters at Adiembra Zezera in the Dormaa West Constituency during her campaign tour of the Bono Region, she highlighted the visible contributions the NDC has made across various sectors of the economy, including education, health, infrastructure, and utilities.
“We promised to build 200 secondary schools, and before we left office in 2017, the results were there for all Ghanaians to see. The NPP promised to build 350 brand new schools. Now we want to know where they are,” she stated, challenging the current government to account for its promises.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang stressed that elections are about track records, urging voters to judge political parties by their achievements. She warned the electorate to be cautious of temporary inducements, such as monetary handouts, aimed at securing votes without addressing long-term development needs.
"Because elections are near, they will come and distribute money after denying you essential services like water, schools, roads, and electricity. That is their usual tactic, which is why we don't see real development happening," she remarked.
She urged voters to support NDC presidential candidate Mr. John Dramani Mahama, highlighting that his return to power would result in job creation and transformative policies such as the Big Push, National Apprenticeship Programme, Women’s Development Bank, and a 24-Hour economy. These initiatives, she said, would promote sustainable development and enhance livelihoods across the country.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s call resonated with her message that voters should put development first and make choices that would benefit their communities in the long run.
