Youth Group Urges Finance Ministry to Halt Nepotistic Payments in $34 Million Scandal

The Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) Brigade has petitioned the Ministry of Finance, demanding full accountability regarding the alleged awarding of $34 million in contracts to companies linked to the President’s daughters. The youth-led group, made up of both men and women, expressed their strong opposition to what they describe as politically motivated payments, calling it a violation of the principles of integrity, probity, and accountability that Ghana stands for.

In their petition, ORAL urged the Ministry to:

Immediately halt all further payments related to the $34 million contracts.

Investigate the awarding process of these contracts to prevent further financial gains by the President's allies and appointees.

Implement measures to ensure similar infractions do not occur in the future, emphasizing the need for transparency and fairness in all government financial dealings.

The group also stressed that it is the Ministry’s responsibility to protect the public purse, not to serve the interests of a privileged few. They called on the Ministry to take a courageous stance by prioritizing accountability and fairness in all financial transactions, ensuring that all contract awards are competitive and free from political influence.

A large crowd of ORAL Brigade members gathered in front of the Ministry of Finance in a charged atmosphere, with protesters singing, chanting, and voicing their anger over what they described as rampant financial mismanagement under the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo administration. The protesters accused the government of facilitating widespread looting and corruption, singling out high-profile scandals involving senior officials.

Usman Ayariga, Convener of ORAL, addressed the gathering, outlining several corruption scandals under the current administration, including the controversial $34 million Service Ghana Auto Group contract, commonly referred to as the "Ambulance Scandal," the SML contract, and the illegal acquisition of lands in Cantonments.

Ayariga commended the youth for their commitment to the cause, emphasizing that their involvement reflects the growing frustration with the ongoing looting and corruption under the New Patr

iotic Party (NPP) government. He urged the Ministry of Finance to immediately halt all payments related to these contracts and recover funds that have already been disbursed, particularly in the Ambulance and SML contracts.

The petition was presented to the Ministry by Bawku Central Member of Parliament, Hon. Mahama Ayariga, who echoed the group’s call for immediate action to restore integrity and transparency in the awarding of government contracts. The ORAL Brigade vowed to continue their campaign until the Ministry takes decisive action to address the allegations.
