NGO Calls for Urgent Intervention in Electoral Commission-Political Parties Dispute Over 2024 Elections
Walk Ghana for Peace, a non-governmental organization dedicated to promoting peace and stability in Ghana, has called for immediate intervention by the Ghana House of Chiefs and the international community to resolve the ongoing standoff between the Electoral Commission (EC) and political parties. This conflict, centered on discrepancies in the voter register for the upcoming 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections, has raised concerns over the potential for political instability.
In a statement issued today, Walk Ghana for Peace urged the involvement of esteemed traditional leaders and international bodies, such as the United Nations (UN), the African Union (AU), and the European Union (EU), to mediate discussions between the EC and political parties, including the National Democratic Congress (NDC). The organization emphasized the importance of a collaborative and transparent approach to resolving the issues surrounding the electoral roll.
The group noted that Ghana’s reputation as a beacon of democracy and peace in Africa is at stake, warning that election-related disputes could lead to increased polarization. It stressed that swift and decisive action is needed to de-escalate tensions and prevent potential unrest.
Walk Ghana for Peace's mission is to promote a peaceful democratic process through inclusive dialogue and ensure stability before, during, and after the 2024 general elections. The organization believes that by walking together, the nation can live together in harmony.
