NDC Outlines Comprehensive Business Development Plans in 2024 Manifesto
At the second edition of the National Democratic Congress (NDC)'s press briefing on its 2024 manifesto, Hajia Saajida Shiraz, the Sectoral Spokesperson for Business Development, highlighted the party's ambitious plans to reset Ghana's business environment. The manifesto, anchored on Jobs, Accountability, and Prosperity, places significant emphasis on creating a conducive atmosphere for business development to spur job creation and economic growth.
Shiraz pointed out that Ghanaian businesses have been severely impacted by the current economic crisis, which she attributed to high taxes, steep exchange rate depreciation, and high interest rates.
The NDC, under the leadership of John Dramani Mahama she said, plans to reverse the negative trends by implementing policies aimed at reducing the cost of doing business, easing the tax burden, and providing targeted support for local entrepreneurs.
Key measures she mentioned include scrapping the COVID levy, E-levy, and emissions levy, and offering tax incentives and financing support for businesses. The NDC also plans to support start-ups and MSMEs by providing tax breaks, low-cost financing, and exempting new small businesses from paying corporate and personal income tax for their first two years of operation.
In addition, the NDC aims to promote the production and consumption of made-in-Ghana goods through a "Made-in-Ghana Agenda," and to expand access to international markets for Ghanaian products under an "Export Ghana Policy." The party also intends to establish a Women's Development Bank to support women-led businesses and implement a special business start-up policy called the "Adwumawura Programme," which will focus on creating and mentoring 10,000 businesses annually, especially among the youth.
Furthermore, the NDC plans to revitalize Business Development Centres across the country, promote green technologies for entrepreneurship, and leverage private sector expertise and investments to enhance various sectors, including manufacturing, transportation, and logistics.
Shiraz reiterated former President Mahama's commitment to ensuring that businesses thrive under his administration and that every Ghanaian, regardless of background, will have fair access to public support services. She also emphasized the NDC's focus on empowering women and creating opportunities for private enterprise growth.
