Africans Rising Founder Calls for Pan-African Integration and Youth-Led Leadership

Kumi Naidoo, founder of Africans Rising, in an interview during the second edition of the All-African Movement Assembly (AAMA) in Accra, has emphasized the need for unity and greater integration across the continent. The event, held from August 29th to 31st, 2024, at the Hill View Guest Center, brought together the largest gathering of African movements, activists, and human rights defenders. Naidoo, who started Africans Rising in 2016, noted that the movement is now led and driven by young people—a reflection of the continent's demographics. He lamented that many of Africa's current political leaders are out of touch with the needs of the continent, being "stuck in the past" and too focused on their personal interests rather than the collective good of Africa. In a statement released today, Reindolf expressed deep concerns about the legitimacy of the election, citing the 1992 Constitution as the primary reason for his decision. Reindolf emphasized that his "God-given conscience" and "right thinking" could not allow him to continue his candidacy under a constitution that he believes is fundamentally flawed. He recalled how key figures in Ghanaian politics, including former Presidents John Kufuor and Nana Akufo-Addo, strongly opposed the 1992 Constitution during the rule of former President Jerry John Rawlings. The North East Regional Minister, Hon. Yidana Zakaria, has announced the distribution of cutting-edge construction machinery under the District Road Improvement Project (DRIP) across the region’s six municipal and district assemblies (MDAs), aimed at enhancing local road networks. This initiative, launched by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, in Accra, has commenced nationwide, with various regions receiving allocated road equipment as part of the programme.  DRIP, a presidential initiative, seeks to decentralise road infrastructure development to address the deficiencies in the country’s road networks. Mr Daniel Owusu-Koranteng, a renowned Mining Activist , Professional Mediator , Reading Advocate , Writer and Poet has donated Forty books to the Logos Hope as his contribution to support the efforts of the world’s largest floating library to promote reading culture especially among the youth globally. The Oti Regional Minister, Hon. Daniel Machator has indicated that the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) will enhance local economic development. Speaking at the launch of the road construction equipment in Dambai, he revealed that the "One District per set of construction equipment" was a special purpose vehicle initiated by the President aimed at decentralising road infrastructure in all metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies (MMDAs) across the country. The President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Mr. Albert Kwabena Duffour, has emphasized the crucial role of journalists in ensuring a peaceful and credible 2024 election in Ghana.  Speaking at the GJA/US Embassy Workshop on Peaceful Journalistic Discourse at the Coconut Grove Hotel, Mr. Duffour highlighted the success of the recent training sessions held across the country.  These sessions he indicated was organized in collaboration with the US Embassy, trained over 400 journalists on promoting non-partisan and fact-based election reporting. Dr. Nathaniel Acolatse, a Deputy Chief Physician Assistant at Ga West Municipal Hospital, is challenging the Tema TDC Court to make public the court order his former wife, Maria Fianyo, claimed to have received. According to Maria, the judge at the Tema TDC Court instructed her to take custody of their children and warned her not to allow Dr. Acolatse any access to them. Dr. Acolatse questions the legitimacy of this order and dares the court to release the unedited Social Enquiry Report. "I challenge the Tema TDC Court to make public the supposed court order Maria Fianyo claims to have received, instructing her to take the children and barring me from seeing them," Dr. Acolatse stated. Below is the full press statement: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE        DATE: 27th August, 2024 ATTN: NEWS EDITOR: INTERRUPTION OF WATER SUPPLY The Management of Ghana Water limited (GWCL), wishes to inform the general Public, that there has been interruption of water supply to the eastern part of the Greater Accra Region from Sunday 25th August 2024 affecting supply to Dodowa, Oyibi, Frafraha, Adenta, Madina, Ashongman, Haatso, La, Osu, Kanda, Airport Residential Area, Legon and surrounding communities. This occurred due to a burst on the transmission line from the Kpong Treatment plant to the Dodowa Booster Station, affecting the Northeastern part of the metropolis. After the repair work was completed, other challenges were identified on the same transmission line which necessitated another shutdown.
